The Ultimate List of Volcano Resources!

This site has it all!  Volcano links to videos, teacher resources, kids resources, activities, references, information for specific volcanoes, pictures and more!  If you can't find what your looking for on this site, I don't know where else to point you.  On top of hundreds of links it also have information pages loaded with visuals.  As with any page loaded with links, there are some dead ones, but still well worth your time.

Facts about Volcanoes for Kids

This site isn't fancy or high tech, but it's got a ton of cool facts and information about volcanoes.  The reading is very easy and it includes a great glossary.  My favorite part about the site is the Did You Know boxes, which have interesting facts and trivia.

National Geographic

The Volcanoes page on the National Geographic page is full of amazing photos.  The articles are more environmentally based, not just spewing facts.  This page would be great to show kids how volcanoes can affect people lives and how they impact the planet.  My favorite link on the page is the 10 Most Dangerous US Volcanoes.  Not many kids know the US even has 10 volcanoes!

Discovery Kids

The Volcano Explorer is an interactive tool made for kids.  It allows them to explore volcanoes from the outside and the inside.  It shows the different types of volcanoes, and the plate tectonics that drive volcanism.  It also lets the students build their own volcano, manipulating different factors that affect the type of volcano and eruption it will have.  This site has great visuals and simple explanations making it ideal for younger students.

Famous Volcanoes

Famous Volcanoes is a pretty good list of volcanoes known around the world.  The very colorful chart (insert sarcasm) has each volcanoes name, location, and a fun fact.  It would be a good starting point for mapping volcanoes around the world, or just to use for fun facts.  I say starting point because it is a site made by students for students, so verifying the information with another site would be a good idea.

Volcano World

This is a great site for educators.  The main page has may options, Hawaiian Volcanoes, Mt. St. Helens, Submarine Volcanoes, Volcanic Minerals, Volcano Lessons, Volcano Models, Volcano Facts, and a Volcano Glossary.  It also has a current volcano activity page, with up date information.  The reading can be a little tough, definitely middle school and up, but the pictures and graphics are great.  However with such a variety of information this would be a great place to start gathering resources.
